Entries for July, 2008
I sprained my right ankle two nights ago. I really didn't mind the pain until last night when it went on overdrive. I applied cold compress (ice) but it only became worse. I went to bed at 10PM, hoping I could just sleep on it only to wake up an hour later to excruciating pain. I'm okay now. I drank anti-inflammatory meds. Thankfully, it worked and I can now walk.
I'm well into the first semester and it's getting pretty crazy--crazier than usual. I don't know what it is--if it is because I'm a senior or the times have simply changed.
I bought nine--yes, NINE books online. This is not just avarice nor do I love shopping more than reading. But still... Shame on me!

I mean that literally with no reference whatsoever to that tacky 90's TV show who goes by the same phrase.
Thursday was a killer. Or so I thought, until the day ended and it turned out better than expected. I had a long exam on two major subjects and I think I did well on both of them. My "to-do" list was so full this week that I felt I couldn't even stop to gasp for some air.
I got to finish the Acquaintance Party poster last Wednesday with the help of Tara. All I got left to do is e-mail all alumni (Batch 1994-2006) about the coming Alumni Night on July 26th which I'm doing right now. Tara and the rest of the AAO ExeCom already sent written invites to all Department of Accountancy graduates who are currently here in Zamboanga City but we need to cover all our bases just in case we missed somebody.
About the Acquaintance Party, ...come to think of it, I'm not supposed to write about it yet because maybe someone who's not supposed to know might read it (but I doubt that!) Speaking of which, Zelle and Che--my only(?) readers, I finally got to update my blog. Aargh! HAHA
So many things to write, so little time. Something sad happened a few weeks ago and I have another rant entry waiting to be posted. I need a personal internet connection, not to mention a PC/laptop... NOW! Don't we all?!
I reverted to my old layout since despite it not being "me", it works.

Let's pretend I'm good with websites, htmls and what-have-you--me being the Site Administrator of the Accountancy Academic Organization (blah... blah...).
Here's the link to the AAO Website.

I never thought I would miss a person's voice. I used to find silly and foolish when people talk about missing somebody's eyes, lips or smile because I think when you lose someone, you miss their presence--their very being more than just any part of them or their body.
I can still hear her voice inside my head--it's as distinctive as the first time I heard it. When I saw her for the last time before she was finally laid to rest, all I could feel and think of is the sadness of never hearing her voice again--her voice reprimanding Darrel for another mischievous deed, her voice requesting Marion to fix the classroom, her voice teaching us about biomes and phyla.
The last time most of us heard that voice was at the despedida party we threw in honor of her (retirement). She thanked us for the party. Darrel and the rest of the Gagoo Dolls (Yes, they call themselves that.) wrote and presented her a song. It was a sweet and lovely moment I know she cherished until her death and I'm so happy--I guess, we all are--that she was our adviser and was a part of, probably the best times in high school.
Who would forget:
- A snake (YES!) fell on Earl while orating and I quote, "The Berlin Wall has fallen..." Ma'am Bazan chided us girls (including Marion and probably Earl) for only screaming when we saw the snake while she thanked the boys for excellently chopping it to pieces. Someone thought of preserving the snake but it was too late.
- Marion and I were pitted against Pupung and April. Marion drove Pupung mad to the point that he thew Marion a beaker across the classroom narrowly missing my face and Fharhana's head.
Those were definitely "the days".
We love her. She will be missed.

For the benefit of people like me who weren't able to go to Japan to watch the movie firsthand, I found somebody who was nice enough to transcribe and retell the juicy details of the much-awaited third installment of the Hana Yori Dango franchise.
Thanks to meimi/nyonyo of LiveJournal and the people who keep the LJ Community going. Domo arigato gozaimasu!
Spoiler Alert! If you don't want to know how it starts, stop right here. The summary is quite lengthy so I'll just paste the first part and link the succeeding parts to the original LiveJournal entry.
The movie opens on a black screen. Twangy country-ish music plays...and
then we open, as always, on a closeup of Tsukushi's eyes, looking ahead
as her hair blows in the wind. In an absolutely stunning shot, she
slips a pair of mirrored sunglasses on, and you can see the Arizona
scenery and the road ahead reflected in the lenses.
It cuts away
to an amazing helicopter shot of the scenery, as the credits play with
the twangy music continuing. Finally, we see a red convertible, with
Tsukasa at the wheel, speeding down a country road.
Cut to the
highway. Tsukasa pulls over, and they get out to admire the view.
Tsukushi is amazed at how huge it all is. Tsukasa says, "This is the
first time we've taken a trip, huh?" all dorkily excited, and Tsukushi
admonishes him that this is not a vacation, they're on a mission. He
agrees, wondering if they'll be able to "find that guy." He says if
they "don't get it back," they definitely won't be able to get married,
because his mother will absolutely kill him.
They get back into
the car, and Tsukasa is talking to Tsukushi and looking at her as they
turn a bend in the road...and a giant semi comes around, heading RIGHT
FOR THEM. (I couldn't tell, but I suspect Tsukasa was on the wrong side
here.) Tsukasa screams. Tsukushi shrieks, "ARIENAITTSU-NO!!!"
Cut to black.

I joined two spelling bees in a week. It's degrading and humiliating--ooohh, it was loads of fun. (Hmph!)
The first one is the Sanggunian Spelling Bee which was held at the old high school lobby <shrieks>. I missed lieutenant and chauffeur in the easy round. Ma'am Claire was the pronouncer and my teeth chattered. (Grrr!) The only word I got right was CROISSANT. Gee weez! I spelled food.
The next one was the JPIA Spelling Bee. Marion was the pronouncer. I was less nervous since I was in the company of peers instead of the entire Ateneo community. I won! Happy happy! Joy joy! The winning word was SCINTILLATION. Although I'm upset I didn't get aioli after watching all that Iron Chef stuff. Oh, well! I won a Paulo Coelho book, "Like The Flowing River". Thank God, it wasn't fiction or Mitch Albom. I don't buy (believe in) inspirational stuff anymore. The book is nice. It's like Robert Fulghum. I like Robert Fulghum.
I guess that's about it.
I been waking up at 6:30 and going to school by 8:00 this past two weeks and all because of... !#*
We can pull this off... if it's the last thing we do. It is the last thing we'll do.
